How to Climb the Stairs

Cats love stairs, and they never seem to get enough of climbing up and down them with ease. However, for humans stairs, that are not climbed with caution, can cause some serious injury and in some cases death. Sure, all stairs need to be climbed in order to get to the top or bottom, depending on where you want to go, it is equally true that there are various types and shapes of stairs, and some need to be climbed more cautiously for safety purposes.

Hold on to the banister provided. Tall concrete steps can cause serious damage if you fall especially if ice forms on it during the cold winter weather.

Make sure you take your time and watch your footing on circular stairs. While they are attractive, and useful especially in Light Houses, they are not the easiest steps to climb.

Climb steps like this, that have no rails to hold, and are steep are the most difficult to climb. There are no safety features to stop a fall if you miss a step, and turning back in the middle of the flight, can also cause problems and need special care. Make sure your footing is placed properly, and one leg at a time, almost in slow motion would probably get you up to the top, but walking down again, can be a challenge.

Tips

  • Always watch your footing on concrete stairs as many times they are chipped or broken which can cause you to lose your balance and fall.
  • Hold a banister if provided. Better be safe than sorry.
